Chubby Chicken Taquitos

One word... YUM!

These were soo delish! I saw these on Pinterest a few weeks ago and went and bought all the ingredients this week so I could make them and they did not disappoint. They were very easy and really tasty. Next time I may throw in some green chili to make them a bit more spicy! I also fried them in coconut oil instead of regular oil!

Random Ramblings!

Colin fell asleep in 3 minutes in his crib tonight! 3! How do I know this? Well, his scout puppy's batteries died so instead of playing his bedtime music, Ive been playing pandora. I heard him snoring and I kept thinking, have I even payed one song? And sure enough, nope! Crazy!

Colin has started talking a bit more... Like just in the last week. He started saying Awww every time he gives hugs and loves. Then he said Hi and Bye! Just out of the blue! He also started saying thank you, which sounds a little like 'day do' and took me awhile to figure it out, but every time I would give him something he would say it! And this morning he added, bubble to his vocabulary! Clear as day he saw a bubble and said it! In honor of his new word we took a bubble bath and read a book called Bubbles, Bubbles!

I think I made a friend! (It will be funny if she becomes my friend and reads this later... Hi! Lol) we met at the children's museum. Funny thing is Colin was drawn to her and played with her, thus making me interact! Good thing cause I stink at being brave and meeting people. I feel like initially I am so shy, but give me a few minutes and I totally open up. We had a play date at the park where we met another mommy who was there with her kids too! It was nice to chat with people other than Colin. Especially since Ryan has been working soo crazy. There are days where I feel like I've only talked to Colin and the dog all day long... Not that there is anything wrong with that... Those two give me plenty of things to talk about! Ha!

That is all my Ramblings for tonight.... Now I'm going to write a food blog! :)

Scaling back

I've decided to take a break from the scale. I've become addicted to weighing myself every. Single. Day. I know this isn't healthy. After I had Colin I enjoyed watching the weight fall off. I would exercise and the next day I would weigh a pound or two less, it was amazing. Now I am expecting the same results and it is not happening. I get on the scale and get frustrated and depressed. Soo.. I am going to hide the scale for a week or two. If it isn't out I won't be as tempted to use it.

I am stuck with my weight. Although I like that weight, I'd like to be a few pounds less. I bought a jogging stroller and have used it everyday since I've had it. I can feel myself getting stronger and am able to run much longer than when i started. I am counting my calories and have been doing really well. But I love sweets which I guess is my vice and I don't plan on kicking it! Lol I'd rather be fat and happy than deprived of sweets! I think moderation is key and you can't deprive yourself entirely of things you love or you will over indulge. So I don't! I'm not saying I eat tons of sweets, cause really I don't. I eat pretty dang healthy, lots of fruits and veggies. But it i have a hankering for a cookie, I'm gonna eat one!

Who knows if I will ever lose those last pounds I'd like, but at least I won't be making myself sick on the scale every morning. Plus I know with regular exercise and eating well I will be healthier, regardless of what the scale says.

Busy Beavers

I planted a garden a few weeks ago. I just started with a few seed packets to see how thy would grow because i had no clue how our soil is here in our new place.... And I've never grown a garden before.

My parents have a huge garden... I mean you could live off of it... Big! So I grew up picking fresh veggies and fruit and munching them right off the plants! I wish the same for Colin. It is special to watch things grow and be able to learn about that process. Plus it takes kids outside, while so many are stuck inside in front of a screen these days.

Anyway, my little seedlings came up beautifully... Soo I decide I would go all out! I bought more seeds and a bunch of plants and spent most of today outside planting. Ryan has been working like crazy, but was able to put up a little fence up around most of the garden last night, to prevent it from being trampled by the dog and toddler.

While I planted and dug holes my Colin played with his best buddy, our dog and when it got hot out and it was time to water everything I planted I let him play with the water too! Enjoy our pictures!

Also... I should have worn sunscreen... Don't worry my kid was protected. It was like 60 out so I had him in light pants and a long sleeve, me? Well, I had just run and was hot... So I did most of the digging with just shorts and a sports bra. (Don't worry neighbors can't see me!) bad idea. My back is very super red!

Job

I suppose I should write about my new endeavors, I forget sometimes after I've updated Facebook that not everything is connected.

Before we left our old town I was writing an outdoors column for the local newspaper as part of my job. Well, the newspaper offered me to keep writing for them after I left. I of course waited until we got situated, which took longer than expected, but I finally spoke with the paper there and am already working on my first story.

I am pretty excited! It doesnt pay much, but it is something that I enjoy doing and a way for me to stay connected and keep my skills up while I am still at home with Colin. Which I love.

My first story is almost complete... Just waiting for an interview! :). Will share it when it gets posted online!

Sleep update

I feel like we've made good progress with Colin's crib sleeping these past weeks. It took quite awhile, but I've stayed consistent every night we've been here and finally he is falling asleep with minimal efforts in his crib and staying asleep at least on average about 5 hours a night there. Alleluia! This is huge for us! We had issues s few weeks ago, but we were also cutting our last eye tooth. So now that us over with I am hoping our sleep will take s turn for the better.

One cool thing he is doing when he wakes up at night and I am rocking him outside his crib he points to go back in. He just started that a few days ago. Granted he doesn't stay in it long after that, but it makes me feel like maybe he gets that is where he is supposed to sleep.

I know he should be sleeping through the night and that people think i am crazy for not being more forceful on the issue, but I am just doing what works for us and my family. Colin has never fallen asleep crying he gets very inconsolable if you let him cry and it does the very opposite of make him sleep. Also if you leave him in there crying long enough I am 100% positive he would climb out. He was close the other day when I escaped to pee and left him in his crib and I was only gone for a minute.

I instead sit next to his bed and play on my iPad. This past week it has been only a few words with friends games before he is out, which is why I know he is doing better. Tonight I didn't even have to hold his hand and he fell asleep on his own.... Without tears. My long term plan is that he will fall asleep faster end faster by himself in his crib and I won't need to sit there. But I may also try to move further away every night so my presence is less and less.

Once we spend a few weekends home and not on the road I am going to initiate night weaning again.he was night weaned before we moved. Then he wasn't. I made an attempt at It when we first moved in and it failed. I think he wasn't ready between teething and the move. So I am hoping it will go better when I try again. It really helped his sleep the first time we did it in our old house. I think he was sleeping 6 and 7 hours at a time! I also don't want his dr to get mad about night nursing at his 18 month apt since she told us she was concerned about his teeth at his last visit and I've yet to make him an apt at a pediatric dentist like recommended... His teeth look fine to me... But I will!

So we are taking baby steps and making progress! But I feel better and don't even take naps most days... Plus we snuggle in bed until 8 or later every day!

Weekend wrap up

This weekend we made a quick trip to our old town to check on our still for sale house.

We had a really busy and great trip. We stopped at the art gallery there where I have 2 pictures hanging. I sent them back in February to the gallery before the show opened in March. We've been back a time or two since then, but the gallery wasn't open, so I was excited to see my work hanging for the very first time!

We met up with some friends at the lake and Colin played in the water for the first time. He had fun digging in sand and eating marshmallows! There was a older boy there also named Colin and before we left My colin decided he was obsessed with him! maybe he knew they had they same name! We stayed at some other friends house and Colin got to feed chickens, see horses, chase cats and get lots of puppy kisses. We had lunch at our favorite restaurant and stopped by my old visitor center where we met Colin's old babysitter and then visited with our old neighbors! It was very busy. Every time I leave I realize how much I miss it and how many people we love there and that love us. It will forever hold a place in my heart. Such a terrible problem to have too many people to visit when we go back!

Here are some pictures of our visit.

Toddler plates

I am soo obsessed with plates that have their individual sections for toddlers/kids. I love it because it helps me remember that they need a serving of fruit and veggies at every meal. I usually always give Colin meat and cheese for lunch and the plates help me remember to add fruits and veggies too. Today's lunch had 2 fruits because he climbed in the fridge and grabbed a cutie orange and started peeling it after I had already put blueberries out! dinner time I almost always have veggies, but forget about his fruit serving since we don't tend to eat fruit with dinner. Yup... Totally obsessed with a stupid plate. Oh well! :)

Top plate includes : veggie chips with hummus, pepperoni and turkey, cheese, blueberries, sugar snap peas and oranges.

Bottoms plate: half a Hawaiian roll (in hand), honey BBQ chicken, broccoli and cheddar and sliced mango.

Fashion post: Updating an old look

Last year I bought this blue dress from Old Navy. It is very simple and comfy, but also very plain.... so how do you spruce up something like that?

Well, I thought about whats in style now. Coral is really in... so I threw a coral shirt underneath. Not only does it give it a nice pop of color and update the look a bit, but it is very much "in" then I added a chunky belt... so it isn't just a plain dress it has some dimension to it. I paired it with black flats... cause I'm a stay at home mom and don't need to be too fancy, but you could dress it up with cute heels too!

And there are 2 face pictures for my friend Dawn... who wondered if I'd turned into a zombie and that's why I wasn't showing my face. Look how much better the picture looks WITHOUT my face! Lol

Exercise and being healthy...er trying

So for the past few weeks I have been trying to work on me. I really want to loose a few pounds and get back into the 120s and tone myself.

I know nothing happens overnight, but I really wish it did! Lol

I do sit ups, push ups, planks and a variation of Zumba/Pilates moves every morning religiously. I've been watching what I eat and I've been running a few times a week.

What frustrates me is I will weigh myself after a few days of running and being really good and expect some results. Only to see that I've gained weight. I get so frustrated and it makes me want to eat something unhealthy! Lol

I guess I shouldn't worry about the stupid scale number. I feel better and feel like I am thinner and I fit into all my clothes better... Guess that is all thy matters. But boy would I love to be in the 120s. Lol

The closest I got was 131 a few weeks ago. This morning after 3 days of running and being under my calories I was at 133! Lame!

I will keep at it because I decided it is fun. yeah I know... Fun?! Well I don't look at it as a pain anymore. Getting out and walking or jogging for 30 minutes and enjoying my neighborhood and the weather is fun. Makes me feel good and accomplished.

So I am off to go exercise... Today it is too windy out so we are going to have a dance party inside! :)

Never a dull moment with a toddler

From reorganizing your Tupperware drawer, emptying your box of tampons, face planting on the sidewalk and busting up his nose, funny faces and trucks... this is my life! Lol

Fashion post - Eyelet dress

I LOVE eyelet dresses this spring! I bought this one at Sears last week. I love that you can wear it casually with some sandals or dress it up for  church or work with a black belt and a cardigan!! I am eyeing a coral colored eyelet dress at old navy... which I just may have to buy!!

A day in the life

I saw this on Mommabirds blog yesterday and thought I would give it a shot. You can read her's here: http://mommabird.net/2013/04/a-day-in-the-life-2-year-old-edition/

Of course this is a day we went to the children's museum, so our schedule is a little squirrelly... Also, we Usually hang in our pjs until late morning and play outside and go to the park, but it has been really cold here this week so we haven't spent much time outdoors.

2:00 am- (yes my day started then) Colin woke up screaming. I took my time getting to him, which really infuriated him. He was inconsolable at first, but I managed, by a small miracle, to get him back to sleep in his crib.

5:10 am - Colin woke up again and I took him to bed with me.

7:00 am - Colin woke up, but went back to sleep. I grabbed my phone and caught up on fb and the world while he slept.

8:00 am - Colin wakes for the day. We get up, I change him and get him dressed. We head into the living room where I do exercises.

8:30 am - we eat breakfast together. This morning was blueberries, oatmeal and yogurt. Momma also has some chai tea to help put some pep in my step!

9:00 am- I get ready and showered for the day. Today we are headed to the Children's museum.

10:05 am - we arrive at the children's museum

11:30 am - We leave the museum and I head to the store to grab some water.

12:30 pm : we returned home. Colin was out, but of course as soon as I put him down in his crib, he smiled and sat up! Lol colin plays with his trucks while I fix lunch

1-2:00 pm - Colin plays while I run around and clean. I put dishes away, did some dinner prep. Cleaned up the kitchen. Went to Colin's room and put his clothes away from yesterday's laundry and did some organizing in the hall closets.

2:20 - Colin is ready for a nap and falls asleep on me in the living room while I catch up on my trashy tv and soaps.

4:50pm - Colin wakes from an epic nap. I snuck away from his grips for a few minutes in time to pick up the house before daddy gets home. We had an awesome photo shoot on my iPad that lasted a good 20 minutes.. def was my favorite part of the day!

5:30 pm - daddy got home and took Colin for a walk to get the mail while I made dinner.

6:00 pm - dinner is served ( my new favorite, creamy chicken pesto and avocado pasta)

We played with the dog a bit and checked on my garden after dinner and then played Legos and trucks until bath time.

8:00 - bath time. After bath, lotion, tooth brushing and pjs and a book daddy insisted on letting Colin watch monster trucks videos... Because it put him to sleep last week once in daddy's arms... Which he never does, so I think daddy was trying to recreate it.

8:45 pm - I change into my pjs and get ready to bed. Only to come into the living room and see daddy asleep and Colin on his lap watching monster truck videos waving and making truck noises! Lol. I scoop him up and we wave bye to daddy and the trucks and go to bed.

9:30 pm - a little boy who is dreaming of trucks is finally asleep after much persuasion.

I type this... And follow my boys to dream land a little after 10, knowing my sleepless son will be up in a few hours! :) this is my life! How are your days spent?

Name change?

I've been thinking of changing my blogs name. I started this blog when we were trying to conceive, hence the name... I did lots of praying! It was mostly private and to track my thoughts and feelings. Then after we got pregnant I used it to track my pregnancy and now it chronicles our lives and our growing boy. Sooo... Since I am no longer praying for little wags maybe the blog should just be called Little wags? Still debating it all and not sure what a name change would entail! Will keep you posted!

More organizing!

Our laundry room/pantry... It has my cleaning supplies, appliances, canned and boxed goods and some other misc things. It also has the dogs bed and supplies! Lol

Next is my handbags. I've been wanting to hang them up since we moved in and finally got around to it. These are only my spring/summer collection and not then I am using! Lol I know... I have problems. But I like having them all hung up and visible so I can use them with my outfits. :)

I'm sure this is the first of many....

I had to strip my muddy son down tonight before letting him in the house!

We just got our irrigation turned on and were checking our sprinklers for leaks....which of course we had. So water was pouring out everywhere. Colin was curious and ran to it. Stepped in it. Fell in it. Well the rest is history. Total boy. Here are his first experiences with mud!

I really wanted to run inside and get my camera, but my hubby was not to happy about the leaks so I figured it would be a bad time for a photo shoot! Lol

17 months

My Colin is quite the character these days. He literally mimics everything we do.

He is so smart, but maybe I am prejudice!

He has starting to use a spoon and is doing really well!

He says: uh oh. Mama, daddy and papa, he barks like a dog as well as pants and sniffs, says aaah aaah when he sees monkeys, makes truck noises when he sees trucks.

Some of the cute things he does is grab tissues and try to blow his nose.

He waves at everything/everyone when he is leaving or done playing and has the cutest wave!

He knows exactly what you are talking about and where everything goes. Yesterday he helped me check the mail and then when we got back to house he tried to put the key back up on the counter by himself!

And today I was unloading groceries. He was standing by the fridge so I handed him a bag of spinach and told him to put it away... Not really expecting much. Wouldn't you know that kid opened the veggie drawer and put the spinach away... I was so proud! Lol

He loves the Itsy Bitsy Spider, open shut them, if your happy and you know it and he can do all the moves!

He knows all his body parts, even his knees and wants his boo boos kissed if he gets hurt.

He loves having jobs, like turning the lights off when we leave a room and feeding bailey... Probably his favorite job!

He is really into stacking and sorting right now as well as playing outside and reading his books.

He still isn't sleeping well, but maybe he will before he graduates...

He is about 22 lbs, we will go for his 18 month apt next month so I will get all his measurements then.  He is in size 4 diapers and 18 month clothes and almost a 5.5 shoe.

Oh yes and the first picture he is eating a cutie orange... That he took out of the fridge himself and peeled!

Fashion post: coral skinny jeans!

So I mentioned that I am in love with the color coral this spring. I walked past a pair of coral colored jeans about 3 or 4 times in the past month at Dillard's and yesterday I finally decided I would try them on. I'm still a little weary of colored jeans as a trend... They are very IN right now, but I just feel like it will be one of those trends we will laugh at in 5 years thinking, did I really wear pink jeans?! Lol But I gave in and bought them. I believe they were 35 bucks and are Levi.    So for my first fashion post in awhile. I present to you, colored skinny jeans and CORAL overload:

Shirt: NY and Company 50% off
Shoes: Targer

Another NY and Company Shirt 50% off! :)

                                                                     Rue 21 Shirt

And for my final look... Complete with a baby on the hip and a dog looking at you like you are cra cra!   Ignore the flip flops on the floor! :) HA!
