3 day weekend

Our Long weekend wasn't all that exciting.  Ryan did some more baby proofing and took out the kayak from the back of the garage so we can sell it. (By the way... anyone want a kayak?) We went to church and took a drive up the mountain to visit some friends another day and relaxed and did laundry another.... boring.  But we did take some cute pictures after church... and I'll share em! :)

I thought I'd be a tougher parent...

But my kid has me wrapped around his little chubby fingers...

Before I had kids I envisioned myself as a tough love parent. One that would never in a million years let my kid sleep with me. No way. That is why they had their own rooms.  Then I had a kid and sleep deprivation drove me to do crazy things like letting my kid sleep in our bed, just so I could get an hour or 2 of sleep.

I've been reading up on ways to help Colin sleep. And the main thing I've been working on is getting him to fall asleep on his own, instead of me nursing him or laying with him... BUT I can't stand to hear  him cry. So getting him to fall asleep on his own with minimal tears is what we are working on. (I know.. I'm terrible. Yesterday Ryan wanted to attempt to get him to sleep, when he was having a nap strike and didn't want Colin to fall asleep on me, like usual... so I sat in the other room and cried harder than Colin did because I couldn't stand to hear him cry. It sucks hearing them cry and knowing that all it would take for them to stop is for you to pick them up... but you can't. :) )

The first couple of nights of 'fall asleep on your own with minimal crying' actually went ok. He is pretty tired by the time he hits bedtime, so I get him in the crib and put on his music toy and talk to him or pat his back and he falls asleep. However, he gets up every 20 minutes to an hour... BUT he falls asleep on his own. So I guess that is technically progress? Lol.  When he gets up it is actually really pretty easy to get him to go back to sleep. I just go in there and put my hand on his back (he is usually on all fours by the time I get in there, because I am in bed hoping he will go back to sleep) and tell him its ok and he drops his head and goes to sleep. The issue is having to do that every 20 mins. to an hour when he wakes up. Last night I did it 5 times before midnight before I caved and brought him back to bed. He at least sleeps 2 or 3 hour stretches in our bed...  I need SOME sleep people!

The point of this is it is supposed to be easier for them to fall back asleep if they fall asleep in the same place they started. If he falls asleep holding onto me and then wakes up in his crib, he's then a little pissed off because I'm no longer there.  Which is understandable. I honestly would have no problem still cosleeping... if he slept. But he doesn't. The last time I had a stretch longer than 3 hrs was over 2 weeks ago! Lol

I'm trying to let him cry a bit longer and be tougher, but there are days where I feel like he can just cry forever and like I mentioned earlier I am usually crying with him. But I just put him in his crib and then walked away and started writing this blog to distract myself. I wasn't done with the 2nd paragraph when I stopped hearing him cry and I checked on him during the 3rd paragraph and he was sound asleep... in a very uncomfortable position, but sound asleep. So maybe he will get the hang of this crib thing again... after all he was sleeping 4 or 5 hour stretches in his crib 3 months ago! I just didn't want a repeat of yesterday when he refused to nap... and so far he has only cat napped all day so he needed this!

On a side note and I promise this long blog will end soon... Yesterday when he was on a nap strike and we were 2 hours into an attempt to get him to sleep and while I was crying in the other room... My husband laughed and said it's ok, someday he will win an award for being the most resilient at something. We don't know what yet, but he will win an award at something for being the most resilient.

138

This morning I weigh what I weighed 2 years ago when we first started trying to conceive! I am so proud of myself! :) Zumba and eating healthy has really done wonders! Lol. I am so glad to be back in the 130's and hope to loose a few more pounds... but even if I don't I am just happy with my progress so far! Hooray!

I left my camera at my great uncle's house when we went swimming so I took pictures with my phone. We didn't actually do much swimming because the water was cold, but we had fun playing in the sun!

Recap

This has been a really crazy couple of weeks. Since we returned from vacation I've been trying to play catchup. Ryan was gone a couple nights helping his brother move up to Denver and Colin hasn't been sleeping well. Between all of that I've been shot. Not to mention I was super busy at work planning a big program.

Pretty much I've been dead. I had such a hard time with my sleep deprivation this week that I thought about quitting just so I could take naps with Colin. Then he miraculously slept 5 hrs in his crib and I felt refreshed again... but he's slept horribly since then. I am at a loss with what to do. I am trying to push his crib more and he has started off in there every night since we got home from SC. One night it will be 5 hrs, the next night only 30 minutes. He isn't hungry, just waking up. Last night I put him to bed at 9 and even though he got up several times I didn't feed him until 2:30. I wish I knew I why he wasn't a good sleeper and could fix it. I usually bring him back into bed with us after he first wakes up from his crib, but I am going to start putting him back in the crib. Last night was my first attempt and it did not go well. I ended up sleeping with him in his room on the spare bed most of the night! Hoping the next couple nights goes better... because I have a very hard time functioning without sleep.

I have a ton of pictures and a ton to blog about... but my laptop is still broken... so I am using it as a desktop, connected to a monitor and it isn't as easy for me to get on it or blog.

The good news from last week was our baby sitter's schedule has freed up a bit and she is now available and willing to watch Colin Tuesday-Friday. I cannot begin to tell you how excited this made me! I have been researching day care and even made a couple phone calls already because he is just too much for me to keep taking to work. Our sitter is going away for a month this summer, to the Philippines, where she is from, but after she returns she is going to start watching Colin full time. While she is gone my mom and Ryan's grandparents are going to help us out with babysitting!

That is all for now!

Birth Group

Before I got pregnant I joined this site called Preconception Community. It was an Internet support group for ladies trying to conceive. It was very supportive, while we were TTC and helped me get through the months before we got pregnant.

Once you got pregnant you move out of that group and join your birth club. Which is the month you are due. I joined the November birth club on Pregnancy Weekly and most of us migrated from the pregnancy weekly community page to our own private facebook group.... a big group of ladies all due the same month.

They were the best support group during my pregnancy.  All of us going through the same things at the same time. Some first time moms, some not. And there were lots of "Is this normal?" questions as we made our way through 9 months of pregnancy.

Now that we all have babies we share pictures of our little ones. Their first milestones like rolling, crawling, laughing. We've become kind of like a little internet family of mommas and babies!

When we found out we were going to SC I thought I would meet up with some of them! I knew there were a couple of the other November Mommas who lived in the area that we were visiting so planned a meetup.

Yes, that's right. I met Internet strangers in person. I think some of my family thought I was nuts. But I feel like I know these ladies. They are all wonderful bunch of caring, supporting and loving women, that I had no reservations in meeting them and hope to meet more November birth club mommies in the future!! :)

Here are some pictures of the ladies and babies!

My First Mothers Day!

My first mother's day was interesting because we were flying for 6 hours of it. I got no sleep and was super exhausted... but other than that it was a good day! Lol.  Ryan tried to make it special for me and gave me one present on the plane and I got my card and other presents once we got home. Mid-air he got me a cool cover that stays attached to my camera because I am always losing my cover and worrying about my lens getting scratched, so it was a very practical gift.

My second gift was very cool. He got me a personalized picture frame and said it was a place holder for us to get family portraits done! :)  Can't wait for those! I want to wait until Colin can sit up better on his own so we can get some cute ones of him like playing in the grass or something. So maybe wait another couple of weeks or so. Our first family photos!!

When we landed in we met my parents for lunch to celebrate Mother's day with my Mom. I was very tired from traveling all day so I look like crap in all the pictures we took! Lol

I am so proud to be Colin's Mommy. He is an amazing little boy who wins over everyone he meets and is nothing but smiles... even when he first wakes up... which makes sleep deprivation bearable when you wake up to that cute little smiley face! :) I love my little monkey!

I hope all the Mommy's out there had an amazing mothers day and please pray for those who are not mothers, but want nothing more in the world than to be one. I hope and pray they will share in the joy of one day being a Mommy.

My favorite Mom moments:

Having my baby rest his head on my shoulder when he is tired.

Seeing him reach out for me when he wants me to hold him.

Snuggling with him.

And seeing his wide eyes and happy smiles every morning... makes getting up easy! :)

South Carolina

We just got back yesterday from our South Carolina trip and we had a GREAT time! We spent most of the time hanging out with My Great Aunt and Uncle and their kids and just relaxing. My Great-Uncle has some heart problems and isn't expected to live much longer, although I think he looks great and if I hadn't known he was hospitalized, I would have no idea! Many prayers that he beats the odds and  lives a very long time!

6 months

My baby is a half a year old. That was the quickest, sleepless, and most glorious 6 months ever! Lol We go to the  doctor tomorrow... but this kid has grown like crazy. I am guessing 17 lbs and at least 26 inches! We will see!
Ok, just got back from the doctor... I am convinced their scales are TOTALLY messed up! Colin has been pushing 17lbs for the past couple weeks on the scale at home and the sitter weighed him this morning and with his clothes on he was 18.6. At the doctor's office... he only weighed 15lbs! What?! I made them re-weigh him because I couldn't believe it. Although I think it was 15lbs 15ounces... so *almost* 16lbs. Which means he has gained 9 lbs (10 in my opinion lol) since birth. Most of that all on Momma's milk! :)

At 6 months:
Colin has blonde hair with a hint of red, but the hair growing in is VERY blonde. He has blue eyes. Yes, I said it... his eyes are blue, much to my dismay that he won't have green eyes like me! Lol

Colin is wearing 6-9 month in the onsies and still 3-6 month in pants because he has short little legs.

He is wearing size 3 diapers.

He is *almost* sitting up on his own. He can sit for like 30 seconds to a minute or so and then falls over!

He is crawling everywhere and grabbing at everything!

He is a total wiggle worm!

He screams and yells and "talks" to people.  I swear he said Momma yesterday... lol But he had no clue! :)

He has no teeth... yet. But is teething like crazy and every morning when we wake up I check his mouth!

He is still very smiley and happy. He cracks up laughing at the tiniest things, which I love!

He has turned into quite the Momma's boy, especially in the evening and just wants to be near me and touching me to go to sleep. He sleeps with at least one hand and one foot touching me... always 2 points of contact... so he can know if I leave! Lol

He is eating: Avocado (Guacamole), sweet potatoes, carrots, apple sauce, green beans, bananas and we just started oatmeal the other night.  He loves EVERYTHING... ha! Kid likes food. Green or orange... he will eat it with a smile! Lol. I have put off trying more foods until we return from SC. But I still have a squash I need to cook up for him in the fridge!

He is still breastfed and eats every 2 hours during the day... and occasionally at night too! Ha!

His sleep has been sucking majorly lately, the past month he's gotten up every 2 hours or less at night. But the past week he had a couple (flukes) good nights.. so I am hoping that is a new trend! :)

And here are his pictures!

Hey... Mommy left the remote over there.... Must.Have. Remote.

obsessed with the ball!

Mommy is soo funny!

Enough pictures... I am teething!
