Crazy motherhood.

Its 4:30 in the morning and your kid has been screaming for 30 minutes. You are tired... exhausted... not only from that night, but from not sleeping well for the past almost 11 months. You've tried everything to get him to go back to sleep and nothing is working. You want to throw in the towel and just say, that's it, I quit.  I wish that was a possibility, but it's not. THEN your baby falls asleep. In your arms, next to your head. He is breathing so peacefully and you watch him sleep for awhile thinking he is the most beautiful thing you've ever seen and wondering how in the world you could be so lucky.

Oh Motherhood, what a rollercoaster you are.

Colin took his first steps!!!

The babysitter said he had been taking 1 or 2 steps all day and I was trying to encourage him to do it tonight and he literally took like 4 or 5 steps towards me! Hooray! I started screaming! lol   Then immediately called Ryan who is on way home from getting my 4 new tires in my car because I had a nail in my sidewall (and we were due on new tires...).  Any who Ryan is so bummed he missed it, but Colin won't do it again now that I have the camera out trying to get video... So I'm hoping he is waiting for his daddy to come home to repeat it!  How exciting! :)

Hopefully there will be a video to come soon! :)

Fashion post - Cute Fall Wedges

Ok, so these pictures are pretty terrible.... BUT I bought these wedges at our local Bealle's store. I don't normally buy things from there... I went there looking for shoes for Colin and they basically had a million little girl shoes and none of his size. They had a sale section that I perused and stumbled upon these cute wedges for 15 dollars.

Here is the link to shoes... it took a LONG time to find them on google! Lol

Shirt is from NY&Company... again.... I bought it half off in the store with a blue one! I love them. http://www.nyandcompany.com/nyco/prod/Sale/Sale-Tanks-Tees-Tops/Abstract-Print-Chiffon-Overlay-Top     FYI, they are currently half off too! :)  Just saying... they are awesome.

Skinny jeans are from American Eagle.... another one of my guilty pleasures.

Also, I am already envisioning this outfit with a black sweater and with my knee high brown boots for when it gets colder! I will do a fashion blog about that when it cools down a bit and I will link back to this one so you can see how I used the same pieces with a few add ons to make 2 different outfits... Oh this fashion stuff is fun! ;)

Wrap up

Sorry I haven't blogged in awhile!  Ryan was out of town for most of last week and then my parents came up on Friday to babysit on Saturday and then they took Colin and I down to Socorro and we spent the rest of the weekend with them and came back with Ryan today.  Needless to say we've been a little pre-occupied!

We had a great time visiting family back home. We visited with Ryan's grandparents and Aunt and Uncle and of course my parents. Colin is so spoiled with all the love and affection he gets from everyone!   His new best friend was his great-aunt's dog, Streak. She is a Boston terrier and LOVES babies... probably cause they are similar in size. She ran around licking Colin all over... which at first was making him mad, but then he thought it was funny and was letting her lick his hand and then pulling it away quickly. Then he got brave and tried to pick her nose... which she wasn't so sure of! Lol It was rather amusing, but they chased each other around most of the night. I think Colin would have taken her home if we would have let him! :)

Colin also went to his Nana's classroom today. He really enjoyed seeing all the kids and yelling at them. He also came for story time, when my mom was reading to her kindergartners. Colin sat on his grandpa's lap the entire story time and only occasionally yelled over his Nana when she read! It was really cute!

We slept something terrible over there. I am hoping it was just the change of scenery that did it, but needless to say I am VERY excited to sleep in my own bed tonight and hoping to actually get some rest... as opposed to no rest from the last several days!

I will probably do a phone dump this week because it has been a LONG time since I've done one! :)

Colin's first haircut

It was a long time coming... but I finally gave in and took Colin to get his first haircut today! :)

I was a bit nervous, but it turned out much better than I even expected. No more crazy hair in the back and everything else looks nice and even and it is still a bit crazy and curly! :)

I was also nervous that he wouldn't stay still. The secret... my hair cutter's daughter was there and offered him a lollipop. He's never had a lollipop before and was totally mesmerized.... letting her do what she wanted to his hair! Lol  While I was paying for his haircut he accidentally dropped his lollipop and I accidentally threw it away! :)  It did it's job and wasn't needed anymore.

I wasn't wanting to chop off a ton of hair, just get it evened out and cleaner looking and that is exactly what she did! It looks even better now than in my pictures.

Being Dairy Free

Well I just finished day three of being dairy free and today is day 4. I have to say it is not as bad as I expected it to be.

My first day I was stressing out about what to eat. It seemed like EVERYTHING had dairy in it.... and a lot of stuff does. I got some good advice from my step mother in law who said, You have to focus on what you CAN eat, not what you CANT.  And that is what I've been rolling with!

I went to the store and bought a bunch of veggies, fruit and dairy free snacks to hold me over. Milk was surprisingly easy to give up for me, but cheese is the hard thing for me.

When I went to the store I bought rice milk and almond milk. Rice milk in my cereal actually tastes like milk to me and Almond milk.... well, that my friends is just DELISH! I don't know if I will ever go back to regular milk after tasting dark chocolate almond milk... Mmmmm... AND almond milk has MORE calcium than regular milk... score!

I am planning lots of meat and veggie meals this week and I packed fruit and veggies as snacks for work. Plus I was pleasantly surprised that all the chips I eat were dairy free! :)

But we had some setbacks with Colin's dairy intake. Ryan wanted to take him for the whole day on Saturday to the big city for a boys day and I didn't have enough pumped milk so I had to dip into my freezer stash, which isn't dairy free. He only ended up giving him an ounce or so from the freezer stash milk, because he brought him by for me to feed him twice... which mean I didn't pump enough milk at work Saturday for my next day of work on Wednesday... so Wednesday I may have to give him more freezer stash/dairy milk.  :( Hopefully his metabolism is faster than ours and it will get out of his system quicker than it does ours... but I don't think we will see any response to him being dairy free until late this week if not next week.

That being said he has had some decent stretches of sleep in his crib. By decent I mean 3- about 5 hours. Last night it was 3 hours and 44 minutes. Which is much more wonderful than every 2 hours or less! He is cutting another tooth and has had swollen gums all week and I notice the second part of the night he is very restless still,... hoping it is the tooth.

I'd also like to add I've eat out all 3 days. (We don't eat out a lot, but after church on Sunday and as a reward for cooking all week we go out on Saturday nights... Friday I went to lunch with some friends) I only really eat at 2 restaurants here in town and I was VERY careful about what I ordered. I became one of THOSE people who ask the server about what things are cooked in and if it had butter or milk in it.  I was able to eat scrambled eggs (cooked without butter or milk, just plain old eggs) with green chili on top and bacon or ham or a pork chop... and no hash browns, they cooked those in butter, with a side of fresh fruit at this restaurant that serves breakfast ALL day!  And I had a grilled salmon fillet with green beans and sweet potato fries for dinner out!  It can be done!

Fashion - Leggings

Ok I am kinda second guessing doing fashion posts after looking at my fashion pictures! Lol I am such a poser... it is ridiculous... I mean, I pose. The camera comes out and I immediately put my hand on my hip and bend one of my knees! Lol.

Ok, so once you get over that.... and the fact that I cut my face off in one pic cause I didn't like it... here is my first fashion post.

Leggings are pretty close to my favorite clothing item for 2 reasons:

1.) They are SO very comfortable

2.) You can wear them to dress up or to dress down!

I pretty much lived in maternity leggings when I was pregnant.

Any who another fashion favorite of mine is the store New York and Company. I LOVE that store and almost every shirt I own is from there... and quite a few dresses.  I am an online frequent shopper at their website and I get all the deals. But, my trick is to wait until they are having a big sale, 40-50% off and that is when I buy.

I bought this shirt: http://www.nyandcompany.com/nyco/prod/Tops/Blouses/Abstract-Print-Tunic-Blouse-with-Self-Belt
for half off a few weeks ago and was excited that it was a little long on me so I could pair it with my leggings!

So without further Adieu :

Shirt NY&Company, Leggings... probably Walmart! and Shoes are Shoedazzle

After church leggings dressed down with a football jersey... you could also just do a longer t-shirt for extra comfort... I LOVE leggings around the house! :)

Ok, That is my first fashion post... I need to figure out why my photos aren't posting right... grrr.... I am going to troublehoot that now...

Fashion posts

So I'm thinking of doing some fashion posts.  I know, I'm no fashionista, but I do love myself some fashion. I wear a uniform to work everyday... so when I don't have to, I love to dress up a bit!

I would like to do a fashion post once a week, but I'd probably be lucky if I did it once a month.

So just to spice stuff up, I am getting ready to write my first fashion post now! I hope you all like it! :)

Dairy Free?

Well, I am considering going dairy free to see if it will help Colin's sleep. Ok, I am more than considering it, I am really going to go for it and give it a shot.

Not going to lie, the idea terrifies me. Not because I love milk... because I love CHEESE and Ice cream and chocolate! lol I cook with cheese a great deal and use it on EVERYTHING. Especially since I cut down on my sodium intake I use cheese to flavor my food instead of sauce. And I'm Italian and live in New Mexico.... Italians love cheese and New Mexican food = green chili and cheese!

Why might you ask that I am just now doing this?

*Well, I had another sleepless momma on my birth club brought it up. She tried it and a week in her son is sleeping 5 hour stretches for the first time in months... that alone was enough to tempt me. But then she said she was reading about it and a milk allergy can cause cradle cap and baby acne. Colin had both when he was born, but the acne went away... he still has a bit of cradle cap though.

* So then I brought it up to someone else who mentioned milk allergy can also cause eczema... Colin had eczema very bad for awhile and now it isn't very noticeable, but still flairs up every now and again.

*Then I did some research of my own... sleeplessness, restlessness... all signs of a milk allergy... who does that sound like, Colin. Even naps are very restless for him.

*Then I started thinking about something else I remembered about Baby-led-weaning. I had read and heard people say that babies won't feed themselves foods they know will make themselves sick or give them a tummy ache. I started giving Colin cut up pieces of cheese the past month or so and he won't touch them. I put a bunch of food on his tray and the cheese will just stay there. ALSO, I just bought him baby yogurt and he hates it. He immediately spits it out. I even tried to trick him and put it in some oatmeal and applesauce the other morning and he didn't fall for it and immediately spit it out.

Soo... all those things, eczema, hives (which he was having for awhile), cradle cap, sleeplessnes, restlessness and avoidance of dairy.... are all reasons why I think maybe we should at least give it a shot.

Until them I am endulging... ice cream last night, chocolate milk today, pizza for dinner, cheese on my pasta last night. Yup... trying to get it out of my system! Lol

Wish me luck! Heck, I'm willing to give it a shot if it means we might.... *might* get some more sleep!

Aquarium/Botanical Garden

We took Colin to ABQ to meet up with his grandparents, because they were going through grandson withdrawals. We met up with them at the Aquarium and Botanical Gardens. Colin liked the sting ray exhibit, but wasn't too impressed with the rest of the aquarium and wanted to get out and crawl.  BUT he was super intrigued with the trains at the botanical garden and could have stared at them ALL day!! It was a nice little visit and I'm glad we went... but can't wait until next year when maybe he will appreciate it more!

At the Sting Ray's exhibit... my fav picture! :)

10 Months

At 10 months  you are a crazy wild monkey and a COMPLETE momma's boy.

You weigh 18 lbs and are about 28 1/2 inches.
You are wearing 9-12 month clothes, but some of them are getting a bit small on you and size 3 diapers.

Some new things you are doing:

Sticking your tongue out... all the time. (Guess I shouldn't have taught you that! Lol) When I dropped you off at the sitters the other day I was trying to get you to blow me a kiss or wave goodbye and instead you just stuck your tongue out!

And you are pointing at everything! Including the baby behind us in church the other day... you were so excited you pointed at her for like 5 minutes!

Giving Lots of Colin Love! Big GIANT snuggles and big wet kisses that we LOVE! I can't get enough of these new Colin snuggles!

You are still cruising the furniture. I keep thinking every month you will walk, but I think you'd rather run and can't figure out how to stay balanced enough to do that.... yet.

You are a climber and climbed out of your walker at the babysitter's house the other day.

You eat everything and your favorite foods are: Avocados still, bananas, plums, hot dogs (yes I gave you some hotdog the other day... and you LOVED it and ate the entire thing!), Pasta and zucchini and your new favorite that Daddy got you hooked on: Goldfish crackers!

You are still not anywhere close to sleeping through the night, but you start out in your crib every night. This past week you actually slept two 3 hour stretches... in your crib and I felt amazing the next day... I sure hope you start sleeping better soon!

You have 7 teeth... and started biting me while nursing a week ago! You seem to have gotten over that new trick though, I think you realized you like nuring too much! :)

And photos:

Colin's Camping Trip

We had been meaning to take Colin camping all summer... but with our schedules not giving us the same days off and Ryan w orking 3 week straights with crazy work projects, we finally got around to it this weekend and Ryan's brother got to come too!

We had a great time. I was nervous about letting Colin crawl around, but I got brave the second day we were there... and he LOVED exploring the forest and tasting sticks, rocks and pinecones! Lol I had fun taking pictures of him exploring!

We went on a couple hikes and it was fun having the boys to carry Colin around instead of me doing it all the time! :) We also brought our dog, Bailey. She loves camping and was a very good gaurd dog, scaring away any cow that would try to come into our campsite! Colin actually slept really well the last night we were out, only getting up twice and nursing once! Amazing! And one of the times we ALL woke up becuase it was raining really hard.  Enjoy our photos!
